Family Fun in Santa Barbara: Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History

With back to school just around the corner, you might want to take the family on one last excursion where you can beat the heat and get the kids geared up for educational fun. A trip to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History brings forth an entire new world to discover about the local region, its lore, and beyond.

Reconnect with nature through informative interpretive tours of several major exhibits that include examples of local geological remains, paleontology discoveries, Chumash Indian relics, as well as a full exhibition of mammals, insects, and marine life. This is one of the few museums in the nation that brings the best of science, nature, art, and history into one place for exceptional family fun.

Featured exhibits include the Gladwin Planetarium, where you can virtually experience the realm of space, and get up close to the heavenly bodies through the Magic Planet. Explore the museum library, or head outside to the Museum Backyard area to investigate the pristine hiking trail along Mission Creek.

The museum is open daily from 10-5 pm with the exception of major holidays, and you can also purchase the SB Nature Pass, which includes entrance to the amazing Ty Warner Sea Center.
