Santa Barbara Madonnari Festival May 25-27

It is a celebration of color and creativity, and it is coming to the Santa Barbara Mission at the corner of Los Olivos and Laguna Streets on Memorial Day weekend. It is the Madonnari Festival and if you’ve yet to experience this popular Santa Barbara event you are in for a treat.

Madonnari means street painters, and the Mission plaza is transformed by these artists using colored chalk to create their works of art on the pavement. These vibrant creations depict people, animals and a variety of scenes that seem to jump from the surface on which they are drawn.

The Madonnari Festival has something for everyone. Next to the painting area there will be live entertainment and an authentic Italian market. The festival is being held all three days of Memorial Day weekend, May 25, 26, and 27 from 10am until 6pm and admission is free. It really is a remarkable event.

The festival is currently seeking volunteers and sponsors if you are so inclined.
